Why choose granite for your kitchen worktops?

Possibly one of the most important aspects of any kitchen is the worktops as it is essential that they are solid, durable and stand the test of time. That's exactly why we always recommend granite worktops for our customers.

Granite is by far my favourite material for any worktop as it is dramatic to look at and varied in pattern as well as extremely durable. It can really transform a kitchen; as long as the style and colour combination works with the units.

The reason granite is so strong and hardwearing is because it’s a naturally occurring igneous rock that has been transformed by volcanic action. The resulting rock is extremely dense and strong as well as very resistant to scratching.

Some granites are smooth and constant in appearance; these are a fantastic choice if the customer is looking for a more modern and functional style of kitchen. These same people are also generally interested in quartz worktops which are made up of quartz dust and a type of resin as well as coloured chips or aggregate. Quartz is another fantastic choice for worktops.

There are different grades of granite available on the market and the grades are determined more by rarity and beauty than by functionality. Generally, the higher the grade, the more expensive the granite is. Most people choose grades 3 to 5 which generally gives a great combination of colour and hardness as well as resistance to staining. But because not all granite is the same, we are here to guide you as to which one will be most suitable for your kitchen.
